Teachers at High Risk of Mesothelioma

Tragic though it is, we are all used to hearing about the high occupational risk of asbestos-related disease endured by the likes of fire fighters, plumbers, and heating engineers. One working group that we rarely see mentioned, however, is teachers.

Among the most common structures in which asbestos was used were municipal buildings like schools. Sustained exposure in these buildings to staff, such as teachers can actually be harmed by older asbestos fixtures.

Asbestos Hits the Proverbial in Vermont

Now here’s an oft-forgotten side effect of asbestos - property prices.

Last November, health officials warned that living near an Eden asbestos mine could have serious health implications, including an increased risk of asbestosis and lung cancer. The officials reported that they had found a small but statistically large number of people living within 10 miles of the mine who had either died from or been hospitalized for asbestos-related conditions.

Residents of Eden are angry because they feel the report was presented without enough supporting research; indeed lung cancer is no longer a concern for health officials. Wendy Davis, the local Health Commissioner said, “the lung cancer association was, in retrospect, an error.” She went on to say that what is not known is how lung cancer and asbestosis victims were exposed to asbestos, or even whether there is currently a health risk for residents.

Two meetings were set up to allow residents to discuss the issue with health officials. At the first meeting on Monday night, Wendy Davis apologized to residents for flaws in the studies. That apology was not enough to stem the flow of frustrated anger from residents, who say that the apology is not enough to repair the damage that’s been done to the community’s property values, their sense of safety, and their pride.

Officials say they will continue their research, and they hope residents will stay away from the mine.

Residents would like the state to do the same. “Leave the piles alone,” said one, “leave them alone.”

Alimta Inventor Donates $1 million to Chemistry Studies

Edward C. Taylor, the inventor of Alimta, which is, so far, the most effective pharmaceutical treatment for mesothelioma, has, along with his wife, donated $1 million for chemistry research at Hamilton College.

Taylor arrived on the Hamilton campus in 1942 to study in the wartime accelerated program and he let the flip of a coin decide whether he should study biology or chemistry. As luck would have it, chemistry won.

More than 60 years later, the student who arrived at Hamilton with dreams of becoming a writer is professor emeritus of chemistry at Princeton University. He is also the inventor of one of the most successful cancer drugs in the world. “I owe my lifelong fascination with chemistry to Hamilton which is why I gave my gift to the chemistry department,” he explained.

Alimta, developed in cooperation with Eli Lilly, is approved in 92 countries and is the preferred drug treatment for mesothelioma; it is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of breast, neck, thyroid and head cancer.

Did Experimental German MesotheliomaTreatment Save British Woman?

Two years ago, Debbi Brewer from Plymouth in South West England was told she had mesothelioma. The lethal disease came as a consequence of hugging her father when she was a child. Her father who died from mesothelioma in the same year Debbi’s illness was diagnosed, worked at Devonport Dockyard for the Ministry of Defence.

Having seen the suffering of her father, Debbi decided to try out a pioneering treatment in Germany and, since the treatment begun, has seen her cancer go into remission. She had her $7,000 a-time treatment, known as chemoembolisation, at the University Clinic in Frankfurt.

The treatment, which is usually used to fight liver cancer, involves inserting a catheter into the lung to administer drugs directly to the tumor Debbi has been told that her tumor is now less than half its original size and that it will not return.

Debbi refers to the treatment as her ‘little miracle.’

For key words targetting with adsense am going to post a list i found of the topkeywords and the average payout with them! I use this list when I am building websites to target which websites will make me money. From domain names to mortgage advice to gambling, these are the ones that pay the most, unfortunately google wont pay out these amounts on new sites until you reach a certain level!

Usually i create the domain or sub domain for the blog or site i am using the term im targetting then create a few posts and run adsense over the top of it. An example would be- domain name- I would create domain-name.follor.com then any related terms would be in the title of the site and post titles.

When I mentioned Wordpress and Adsense, most people were skeptical. In fact, here are the Top 5 most interesting questions I got from my survey:

Q1: Is It Too Late To Make Money From Adsense?

Absolutely not. Until six months ago I never made more than a dollar with Adsense. Today my income has increased by 300% and continues to grow significantly every month.

Q4: Isn’t It Just Easier To Use Blogger or Blogspot?

Easier? Maybe.Better? Definitely not.

Yes, it’s easy to set-up a blog with Blogspot.com and get your own Bloggger account. You can be done in 10 minutes flat. Blogger also has built-in functions to add Adsense codes directly into their platform.

In fact I started with Blogger and I won’t say that it’s bad. But after a while I started to get frustrated with Blogger, and here’s why:

1. Google Owns Your Content – Google has the authority to shut down your account without warning if they don’t like what you’re blogging about. You have no control over your own blog. With Wordpress, you own the domain name and the blog is hosted on your own account. You have full control over your content.
2. Lack of advanced options – Blogger doesn’t allow categories. You can’t sort your articles into different focuses. With Wordpress, not only can you add categories, you can also add as many plugins as you want easily and even add audio or video to your content.
3. Publishing with Blogger is a pain in the ass – It can take forever to post articles on the Blogger platform, especially if you’re making changes to the entire website.
4. You can’t brand yourself – Of course with Blogger you can publish to your own domain, but you can’t do significant changes to it. I can identify Blogger sites immediately, but with Wordpress you can customize and brand almost anything you want. You can also install Wordpress on an existing website as a sub-domain or sub-directory if you want.
5. Limited promotion options – When you post in Blogger, you can only “ping” a limited amount of sites, whereas with Wordpress on your own domain you can ping as many blog directories as you want, and start getting more traffic.

In fact, there are other platforms like MSN Spaces, Typepad, and even MySpace. But these solutions are severely limited.

There is so much talk about the US recession being an L shape and Malaysia recession being a U shape and not a V shape etc etc. Being an average income family, I Dont worry so much about the recession hitting my family.

However, I can foresee it affecting my online income. Recession is definitely going to affect the make money blogging  sector. When companies stopped spending so much on advertising and consumers stopped shopping, the oasis will dry up and we will be fighting amongst ourselves to get a piece of the cake.

A lot of enterprising individuals are already promoting blogging for money as a way to supplement the daily wages. So, there are going to be an increase of bloggers in this already saturated blogosphere. When times are bad, more will resort to black hat methods which make it even harder to make money. One sneaky black hatter is equivalent to 100 or even more noob bloggers.

Then, we are going to see our blog posts being ripped and reuse by these new bloggers. As it is, a church friend already told me she is attending a blogging course, given free of charge by someone. This someone said blogging will make money and recipe blogs are the best money making blog. It was hinted that it is not hard to make recipe blogs because recipes are easily found in books. Good thing it was in church that the conversation took place or I will curse the person to hell. You see, the person gives free blogging lesson but sells webhosting and domain. I told my friend that blogging is free and one does not need to invest in any hosting or domain until one is very sure that blogging is enjoyable.

So has recession already affected your income? My blogging income was reduced several months ago but I think it was due to my diversion to do other things like taking up courses, doing volunteer work and spending time with my family. I do notice that advertisers are getting more demanding and only want high PR blogs. Some companies demand that we only blog for them and not other companies.

In a recession like this, we are at the mercies of the demanding companies and we either follow their rules or forget about making money blogging. Me? I will stick to my positive views that businesses still need to do their SEO and need to buy links and paid posts. They still need good quality blogs with good PR to do so. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to survive, albeit on lower income.
